Outstanding article to consider
The American Spectator has this. I loved this quote:
Among certain sectors of the media, for example, it's an article of faith that those who believe in God, or advocate principles supporting that belief, are just a mob of Bible-thumping, knuckle-dragging, Scripture-spouting, hellfire and brimstone-preaching, rightwing, gun-toting, bigoted, homophobic, moralistic, paternalistic, polyester-wearing, mascara-smeared, false-eyelashed, SUV-driving, Wal-Mart shopping, big hair, big gut, fat butt, holy-rolling, snake-handling, Limbaugh-listening, Bambi-shooting, trailer-park-dwelling, uneducated, ignorant, backwater, hayseed, hick, inbred, pinhead rubes -- mostly from the South, or places no better than the South -- who voted for Bush.

Whew, reading the whole American Spectator article takes some work (I'm a skimmer at heart so I never do justice to such concentrated pieces of thought and research). However, it is very interesting and thought provoking and makes some very logic backed points. On an instinctive level, I have never had a problem with the theory of evolution co-existing with what is now being defined as intelligent design. Once I got old enough to do some independent thinking, I became comfortable with the Bible as something to be taken less than word for word literally. I viewed it as a means of communication to get the point of the story told but there was lots of room for interpretation of timing, etc. So, anyway, just on this gut instinct level, intelligent design and evolution have been getting along just fine in my life.
